I'm so sorry your poor goose was attacked.
Can you get her inside to a dark quiet place? Clean up the wounds as good as you can and flush any puncture wounds with saline followed by a 50/50 mix of water and betadine. Spray Veterycin or the betadine solution over all wounds and blot dry. Keep her warm and provide her with water with electrolytes and try to get a drop or two of Nutridrench in her when she is a little more stable. Try to stay calm when you are handling her so she doesn't get further upset.
Hang in there. The cavalry will arrive soon.

I called animal control on the dogs because they were a neighbors and they were going crazy. I brought the goose inside and kept her calm, but luckily the animal control officer was able to take her (and me) to the waterfowl rehab center. She is there now getting treatment.

That's great! Send any bill you receive to your neighbor. They should also get a fine from animal control.

The animal control officer said it was an "unfortunate incident" blamed the hurricane stress on the dogs behavior ( though the dogs have been after the neighbors chickens before) and believed it was an isolated incident. Said i needed to keep my animals locked up ( which I do when necessary and the geese were in MY yard) and also told me that we needed to work out a "schedule" with the neighbor ( the neighbor doesn't even care about the dogs' behavior). Another neighbor and I always communicate about when our animals will be outside and already have times worked out for when he can let his dog out and I put the geese away and will ask if I can lock the geese up if his dog needs to come out and always apologizes if dog if it gets out even if the geese are locked up and always checks to make sure the geese are ok. The neighbor's dogs who attacked today insisted before that their dogs would stay inside their yard and fence. Today, the dogs were in their house and busted through the screen of an open window and went after the geese and me. The animal control officer was nice but insisted that the whole thing was an "unfortunate incident" and no other action was necessary.
The waterfowl rehab ( which I didn't really know about before) is going to provide all treatment free of charge including any medications and is going to deworm the goose too! They are wonderful! It's nice to know that there are people willing to help animals like this and really care about animals, wild or domestic.

I disagree with the animal control officer. The dogs will be at it again.
I had a pair of Toulouse geese once. The neighbors two white GSD attacked and killed the gander.
A month later my then boyfriend caught these dogs attacking one of the sheep IN THE BARN. He grabbed his shot gun and shot both of the dogs. One died on the spot, the other at the vet.
Upon further inspection, the dogs had been on the property the night before (unbeknownst to us) and had killed a lamb as her body was snow covered from the snow we'd received after midnight.
The dogs owners received 6 citations: 1 for each dog for killing domestic livestock, running at large and being unlicensed.
Regardless of the opinion of your animal control officer, in most areas of the US, a dog must be leashed when off the owner's property and must be controlled at all times. Your neighbor is 100% responsible for your goose.

I 100% agree with you. The animal control felt like we were worried because the dogs were pit bulls, but we were worried for the safety of our animals, family, our other neighbors and their young kids and pets too. The dogs' (2) behavior today was unacceptable and was very aggressive. My goose was dragged by one dog through the dirt down the road while the other dog chased the other geese and people trying to stop the dogs. The neighbor (who wasn't home but we called) was very angry because we called animal control and even yelled and argued with the animal control officer. All they were told was to keep the dogs inside until they weren't stressed and told me to lock my geese up in the coop for the day and until the storm cleanup and repairs are over now they are hot because it's 90+ degrees outside and they only have one pool inside their small enclosed run.
The animal control officer did take me and the injured goose to the rehab center and was friendly, but I still don't think enough action was taken. Kept insisting that "agressive dog breeds" can be friendly and usually are ( which I agree with to some extent) but the problem I have is with the 2 specific dogs not all dogs or dogs of the same breed , just those two. They will most likely be at it again and I will be prepared next time! I may have to leave the geese locked up permanently and build another larger(predator proof too) enclosure too.
I'm just glad everyone is safe for now or is receiving appropriate care. I really appreciated your input earlier, could have saved the goose's life if the rehab center was unavailable.

They will ABSOLUTELY be at it again. The owners don't care. They are angry because animal control got involved.
Two dogs together can make an ordinarily good dog go "bad". They develop a pack mentality and will egg each other on.
I'm glad you are getting prepared for that.

The dogs came through the window screen AND a fence to get into your yard?
:th
I would be livid! I would also fully expect and plan on a recurrence.
For the owners to be mad at you for getting AC involved blows my mind!

I personally own pits now and have before. I will in the future as well I am sure.
I have tall, strong fencing that is buried in concrete too.
I love my dogs but in no way believe that all dogs are safe around birds. Mine cannot get near my birds.....ever.

I am so sorry your bird is injured. It sounds like it's getting expert care.

Thank you for not blaming the breed.

The only dog I have ever been bitten by was a Chihuahua.
My neighbor has a mastiff that has tried though.
Yes the big dog was far more terrifying.

Again I am so sorry your bird got attacked.
