Help!!!!!!Dog attacked goose!!!! Help Tags: Add Tags

Please let us all know how your goose is doing! I'm so glad she is getting such a great level of care.
I'll post an update when I get more info. I dropped the goose off at the rehab center ( which was basically someone's home that had lots of land and plenty of chickens, waterfowl, peacocks, other fowl, etc) . I wasn't given much information other than that I would be contacted when it was time to pick up the goose. I hope she's ok.

Update: Goose is still recovering. She has 2 deep puncture wounds on her head, multiple other punctures on her body, a large puncture wound and abrasion on her back, and abrasions on her wings and feet. Her wings had to be taped up to stay in place and the wounds were filled with dirt and other small debris. She's receiving a round of antibiotics and pain meds. She's very tired and seems almost traumatized by the attack. No word yet on when she can return home.
As for the rest of the flock, they are very stressed from the event and are scared to leave their enclosure ( they didn't want to leave their house and they can't really go out in my yard anyway because of the dogs). I went to feed them this morning and the second they heard the neighbors dogs barking at someone driving by, the geese went crazy in there enclosure, flapping, splashing water, falling and knocking over food bowls, and hissing. Poor things. One of the ganders has barely slept or eaten and is waiting and honking for the goose to return. I did get him to eat some treats from hand but he really misses the goose ( the geese haven't seen the injured one since the dogs dragged it down the road). Hopefully the injured goose recovers soon and the flock can return to normal.

I wouldn’t even think of letting them outside of their enclosure till you have taken care of those dogs or have made a very secure larger area fenced for your geese here we have dogs running loose my flock would be desimated in no time and then coyotes etc fencing is the only way to keep them safe then shot gun .Hope everyone recovers soon I am sure that was horrific for them all.

Update: The goose died today from the damage the dogs caused. The dogs caused internal damage to the goose by dragging and chewing it.

I'm so sorry you lost your goose! It's so infuriating that the neighbors didn't seem to care. If my dog went out and attacked/killed someone else's animals, whatever they were, I would be mortified! I'm fortunate that she was raised with chicks and chickens and is very good with them. No chase instinct*.

Some people just don't understand unless it's a cat or a dog. I had a duck that was attacked by a dog that traveled over a mile through the woods and jumped over the electric fence get to her (she died while I was trying to wash off the blood to see her injuries). I had contacted animal control, worried there may be a stray that could come back, and they tracked down the dog and the owners of the dog, who said they had let the dog out (no fence, no leash) and it had run off.

They didn't understand "why it was such a big deal". It was "just a duck after all" and "not a cat or dog or person!" Their words. I don't know what happened or if they were cited or not but the dog has never returned so I'm hoping they got a fence or keep the dog on a leash.

* My dog has epilepsy and when recovering from a seizure she has chased the chickens before. This is a short effect. She's very confused after her seizures.
