Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

How are things looking this morning @Perris - will you be branching out into ducks?
I'm waiting for daylight to assess. Apparently they'll be back today or tomorrow to 'restore' the area, whatever that might mean. At least the water's back on and it has some pressure!

As for ducks, no, not me. It is really advised against with avian flu about. They are the superspreaders.

this was what it looked like last night between shifts

I know, I wasn't seriously suggesting it. Glad your water is back on at least!

You've just reminded me of the time there was a suspected burst water main at the farm. Someone must've reported the stream that had appeared in the field because the water people turned up, let themselves into the field with their mini digger (much to the delight of the very friendly Highland cows ), dug a hole and then "restored" the area before leaving. Unfortunately the actual cause of the new stream was a blocked field drain which they helpfully reburied because only the massive hole they'd dug in the field was their problem

Do your flock like to come and "help" when there's people digging holes with heavy machinery?

I am somehow concerned with the thought that chickens dream…
When I’ve checked they are all safely in for the night I always say, because I ‘m daft, ‘good night, sweet dreams, see you in the morning’. Hopefully the last bit doesn’t give them nightmares

Is she asleep in that picture? Apparently the heads hanging down means they're in REM sleep, aka dreaming, something I've seen but haven't been able to find any pictures of.
She was awake but almost asleep.

I always tell mine to dream about fat juicy bugs! And I tell my dog "sleep tight, dream of bacon tonight"
