Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

amazingly they are out there again now - when the day shift went home, I thought they'd just left it for the night, but now there are lights and action, and the night shift must have moved in. The tree huggers won't be getting much sleep! I was surprised they went to roost in the usual (quite-near-to-the-leak) tree, regardless of workmen in orange fluorescent jackets; they may be regretting it now  Still, better than a big deep hole full of water in the morning... :fl
Make sure the water board people don't steal one of the tree huggers for Christmas dinner!

Rain, lots of it. Wind, lots of that as well. Nobody came out except to get a drink. One and a half hours.

Christmas for Chickens today. Fresh, deep bedding and flock blocks. These are "candy apple" and smell like apple pie. They all seemed very happy with them.

Dutch here now knocks on the door and begs for crop rubs. Didn't take him long to get hooked. I gave him some burger buns to pass out and he did excellent, even warning the other boys to let the ladies have their bites first.

She looks like a vulture up there, thought it was funny.

My Barred Rock also sleeps with her head hanging down.

She looks like a hopelessly seasick passenger in rough seas.

This is very kind of you. Thank you very much.
I'm rather partial to stolen. The ones for sale in the supermarkets aren't particularity good and have lots of crap in them. I'll try this recipe after Christmas.
Of course! I really like it too, and I'm happy to spread the word. I've never had stollen from Germany, so I'm not sure how it compares, but I really love it.

Same here, the rain I mentioned a bit ago was only the beginning. We've been getting slammed by an atmospheric river that's dumping huge rainstorms on us. These aren't uncommon but this is a big one, up to 75mm of precip today and tonight alone. The electricity went out night before last and is threatening to go out again tonight from tree limbs blowing down onto power lines. The in-laws are getting almost double the rain we are and are currently without power. I'm sure their chickens are not enjoying themselves.

Is she asleep in that picture? Apparently the heads hanging down means they're in REM sleep, aka dreaming, something I've seen but haven't been able to find any pictures of.
I am somehow concerned with the thought that chickens dream…
