Lost 23 hens and finally found my rooster at the neighbors and dog had buried him but was still alive. That was 3-24-11 Thursday he was out in cold for long time. Missing lots of feathers. Cleaned him up and could not see too much for injury. But found it Sunday hidden. Puncture. We gave him an injection of 1/4 cc per vet instructions. He has just been sleeping -- not wanting to eat or drink where he was before. Should we keep trying. I am worried that he is just suffering. But like everyone knows, we love him.

keep trying a while, you would be in shock if you were half eaten and then buried alive im guessing. sorry

Oh my gosh that is awful, so sorry for your loss and your poor roo what he must have gone through.. I wish i could tell you he will be okay but I have no idea.. how does his wound look? do you think there is infection? what did you give him and are you still giving him anything? are you force feeding him or just leaving him alone? I am so sorry this has happened, what has the neighbor got to say about all of this..sorry forgot to add

Giving him Penicillin - what vet said to use. No there is infection - can smell it. I feel so bad for him. He moves a little and we are going to have to force some water. Neighbor well once he discovered dead chicken in his yard he wanted to know if we were missing any. I said yes 22, because I only found one body. He claims his dog was put up and we have no proof. We just have 1 hen and the poor rooster. Still have found no other bodies. I would think the dog or dogs would get very sick.

Wound is a puncture. Looks like yuck. He is in the house and my daughter just got him to take a drink.

I had two hens get injured they all tend to want to be alone, sleep and not eat or drink. I think it is like our, I want to be left alone thing.
It might take a few days but that is little you can do. It will be fine just keep an eye out.
I am sorry you lost so many, that is awful.

I hope he pulls through to have gone through that is just horrific.. sounds like your doing all you can now, just try to keep him hydrated. maybe offer things to eat like scrambled egg and a little canned cat food the best you can buy, along with his reg, feed. also you can get electrolytes to put into his water. How did the dog get into your yard? I believe that neighbor will be more careful the next time he puts his dog out unattended, or at least I hope he does.

We will keep trying. Neighbor claims his dog was up. But ready to call the county sheriff about the other 2 dogs that are on the loose. Dogs got in because my husband was in charge of putting all to bed and left coop unsecured. Needless to say he is in the dog house. I just don't think one dog could have done in 22 hen alone. Thank you for all the replies. He has drink some. We are offering all kinds of treats and food.

My own dogs love the chickens. They are inside alot, but knew something bad had happened and would not eat all day. They miss them. Any suggestions how to keep our one hen - Rosie happy while she is all alone? Thanks all.

I'd bring her in so she can keep your roo company. plus she probably needs some TLC right now after seeing her flock mates killed.. yep be on the lookout for those dogs and take care of that problem, your way or through the sheriff. but they will be back you can count on that.
