My ever so awesome rooster( his name is Bird) was attacked today by a visitors dog, put bull. And we are not sure how badly he got or for how many seconds he actually had ahold of him. We were all running trying to catch him but none of them were stopping. So they got out of view for a minute at the longest then something distracted the dog and we found Bird under an old car parked out back, dog very close by.
So the damage as far as I can only see on the surface is , a cut alongside of his face, head, maybe neck. At first he just stood there and his eyes were open. It's been 4 hours ago now. He's eyes are closed. He looks maybe like he's swollen. He's not a touchy bird so I can't touch him ever anyway so he kind of jumps at the fact that when I touch him. But he's now laying down with both eyes closed. His breathing is very shallow and sometimes sounds kind of gurgly. I can't get close enough to him to tell her if there's any. I don't know how to tell if there's any internal injuries or not. I will post some pictures. I need some help. This is the best rooster ever. He's so totally worth saving.

Oh, poor boy! Have you applied anything to the wound, such as saline or antibiotic cream? That should have been done right away. Give Bird some water and make sure he doesn't spit up any blood. Do you have a chicken vet near you?

No. He's hiding in a spot I can't get to him now. I can see hi for the most part and when it's quiet I can hear him breathing but I'm afraid that it sounds kind of gurgly like he's got blood inside somewhere and I'm very concerned as well about his eyes. It's too dark to see him now where he's hiding but when I was able to see them last, they were both shut and starting to bulge or swell. But like I said I just can't get to him, not safely anyhow.

😔 I would give him a little while, them try to lure him out with treats. He needs to be assessed and treated quickly, if possible

If he doesn't want to be touched you are going to have to force him to be touched or that swelling may get worse and his wounds could get very infected.

I am sure that stressing him out is the last thing to do, but there is a chance that he is too hurt to even come out of where he is.

Urgent injuries like this, definitely on a chicken you say is worth saving, need to be treated as soon as possible, even if that means grabbing him in any way possible. Put a long stick under where he is and try to nudge him out slowly. He might stay under there everytime you are there out of fear of being attacked again, definitely since he has one useless eye.
