I hatched 4 chicks last week. Three of them are doing really well they always come out from under the brooder to eat drink and run about but one of them never comes out from under the brooder. It looks like it hasn't really grown and I brought it to the water and it drank a little but not much. I have no idea whats wrong with it. The only thing I could think of is that they have sawdust bedding, perhaps it has eaten some and cannot digest it? Does anyone know whats wrong and have any tips for how I can help it if I can?

Does it have the behavior of not eating or drinking, appears to be sleepy, rarely opens its eyes, lifeless?

I'm so sorry. Most likely your chick will not make it. I've seen this in chicks many times, and they never make it past the first week of life. No one knows what it is, it just happens from time to time. You can try putting chick food in water and mashing it up to make mushy food, and force the chick to drink it. However, when it comes down to it, there's really nothing you can do.

aww okay poor little guy. I live on a farm and we get calfs and lambs the same, we just call the dozy and they're the same we don't know what causes it and they normally die :( but thanks for responding :)

I had one that was like that. Spent an entire day on the sofa with him in a blanket on my stomach. I force fed him mush and made him drink vitamin, electrolyte mix called Save A Chick. He slept all day and I figured he would die but I wanted his last day to be as comfortable as could be. I slept with him on the sofa that night. Miraclelously, he was better the next day and I continued to nurse him. Almost two years later now he is a fiesty rooster

I what exactly he had or what exactly made him pull through but I give alot of credit to Save A Chick. I bought it at a local feed store
