I just reread your entire post. Here's what I would try as far as vitamin therapy..

.25mls poly vi sol daily
200 ius vitamin E twice daily.

If there is no improvement in two weeks or, she gets worse then you are dealing with more than a vitamin deficiency.

I'm sorry. There is no way to know for sure what is wrong without a necropsy. If it were a respiratory problem, then a swab or blood test would work. Unfortunately, when it comes to other illnesses, this is not the case.

You can contact your local government extension office and ask them where the nearest state lab is that will do one. Most state labs will do them for little to no cost.

Good luck with the vitamins. I hope she responds well and you can put this whole thing behind you.

Well, I guess I am just going to keep trying with her until I cant do anymore and I feel it is time to let her go. She is such a sweetheart. Lets me hold her and cuddles to me like a baby. She is so skinny and does not seem to be putting on any weight at all. I am seeing her eat pretty good, and she is drinking well too. Poop looks normal. She is having such a hard time with her legs though. Like her 'knees' don't want to work right (at the bend) She walks around but it's like if she had both legs locked at the knees and has to put one in front of the other like sticks. They do bend, but almost like they wont support her. Could she have been 'bowled' over by one of the other 2 and gotten injured? I have felt around on her legs and nothing seems to hurt her.

Sounds a little like rickets. Research that. I know it is a lack of vitamin C and D...I just read about it. I know it was in a magazine. Try searching and see if you can find out. In the meantime, try eggs, mealworms, chicken livers, cat food, etc..anything with alot of protein to try and build her back up.

that's what i am starting to do. she really doesnt care about mealworms, doesnt seem interested in anything but her normal crumbles. Although she will kill for mash. That's what i have been putting the poly vi sol in to get it down her without force. thank you sooooooo much for the advice and letting me bounce this off of you. I have never had an experience like this with one, and really appreciate the help.

You are very welcome...any questions, feel free to ask. Please keep updating. I know that the same makers of poly vi sol make tri vi sol. It is vitamin d, c and a. I'm just wondering if that is something you might want to try. I don't have a clue about dosage or if it is safe for chickens...I would think it would be fine since it is formulated for infants.

When I am stumped and feel that I just need to do something, I will try anything to save them...even if in the process, I lose them. I just can't sit back and let them die without trying.

I would let her eat as much mash as she wants. Putting yogurt into it for added protein and probiotics. She will also get all the fluids she needs that way, too.

yup, I am the same way. I wont just let her waste away, gotta try something. At least if i loose her I can honestly say I tried my darndest. I am sure the trivisol will be ok to give her. I will probably mix the two together and give it to her.

I had a little polish boy EXACTLY like this. I think he suffered a brain injury somewhere.. I treated him with poly vi sol and that helped a bit with balance, but he eventually passed away. He wasn't suffering in the meanwhile. He looked happy and was loving. He just died in his sleep Poor guy.

She seemed to have taken a turn for the worse after she lost her best friend on Saturday. By Sunday she could barely walk, couldnt stand and was just miserable. i am sorry to say that she did not make it. Breaks my heart to say that. I could not let her suffer anymore. I will be forever without my Daquiri and her sister Margarita the little frizzle.


Friday before I went to work my little black Cochin frizzle Margarita seemed a little less than her spunky self. Friday night she still seemed a little 'down'. I saw her sneeze before I put my little baby to bed with her other three remaining bunkmates. I awoke Sat. to find her on her side barely able to move. When i picked her up carefully her head seemed like she was 'dizzy'. She was not able to move anything else. I held her in my arms for not more than 10 minutes when she had a horrible siezure and died in my arms cuddled up to my face.

As some of you know, my little white Polish Daquiri has been having some leg issues for the last three weeks. Walking on her hocks instead of her feet, lethargic, pale, etc. She took a turn for the worse Sunday and I could not let her suffer anymore. Her quality of life had taken a drastic downturn. I couldnt let her suffer anymore and did what I had to do.

Please tell me this does not sound like Mareks. What can I do for the rest of my flock if it is?

I'm having the EXACT same issue with my 15 week old polish hen. I have brought her in and am giving her eggs and vitamins/ antibiotics and have wormed her. She looks swollen on one side, her head is kinda off and she can't stand or walk well. I posted a thread and had 2 people respond. They asked questions and when I answered, no response back. I feel helpless.

Is there absolutely any chance something is going on with your feed? Is it bad?

These symptoms can be a sign of moldy feed as well.
