Starting off, I have two nine month old duck hens I keep as pets which I love very much. Yesterday I noticed that one, Elenor Duckselvete, was holding her one of her eyes closed. I didn't think much of it because they do that pretty often. But when I went to check in her today Elenor was moping about in the duck house with that eye still closed, and I brought her inside for a bath. After rinsing Elenor's eye I've found out it's pure white, like clouded over, and her vision in it seems limited if not completely gone. I called the vet in a panic and the one vet that actually sees ducks isn't working today- and on top of that I don't get paid until Friday. Please help me help this baby, I don't want her to lose her eye or die. Even if it's just helping her eye stay about the same until I get her to the vet.

Welcome to BYC! Can you post a picture of her eye?

I had a chick and the other chickens pecked her eye really bad, I thought she had lost it all together as it had "disappeared " inside her head. I thought she wouldn't make it until one day it's back and she can see out of it. yes, a picture would be helpful.

Okay sorry for killing this thread by not replying (no internet for a bit, lots of rain), but update: turns out the poor thing scratched her eye on her own, and then burst it by trying to over preen. I have medications from the vet and she's doing well. She might need it removed but that's still up in the air. I appreciate everyone's advice! I was super concerned with infection and the flushing w/saline advice was helpful. Thank you all so much!!
