Help! Duck not walking

Is he eating and drinking? Any signs of diarrhea? Is he free range? Does he have access to natural water sources? Any signs of drooping eyelids or a drooping neck? I'm just wondering if Botulism C is a possibility.[/QUOTE

Not free ranging but they have a good size run with a pond and a separate water dish that is automatically filled from a water tank. Eye lids look ok his neck did look a little Droopy last night but seems a little better today. If it is botulism c how would I treat that?

I understand peas[little green ones you can buy frozen and thaw] have niacin in them.

But I'd get the B Complex and try it since he is already having trouble. He needs so good doses.

Other than a back injury niacin def I am just not sure what could be going on. Does he have a good appetite ? TSC carries B complex liquid for cattle it says injectable but can be given oral right from the bottle over dried meal worms or peas or drops into the bill. Just don't shoot it down his throat.

Awesome I have a TSC close by. How much of the b complex should I give him? Is it okay if the female has it too or should I separate them when giving it to the male?

Vitamin B3 deficiency (niacin) is going to be the most common reason why ducks have trouble with their legs. As well as the easiest to treat. Excellent advice has already been given. Get the liquid b complex ASAP. It has another b vitamin in it that is called “a feel good vitamin” because it literally makes you feel good. So it can only help the situation even if the deficiency isn’t the problem. If the deficiency is the problem, it can take around a week to see improvement based on the severity.

The complex is in the cattle and poultry vitamin shelf at TSC and I’d bet it’s in similar sections at a local feed store.

If you are concerned about botulism, there isn’t a whole lot you can do other than flush the toxin out and hope they make it. But the toxin is a paralytic, meaning the limbs are paralyzed first then the major organs. They eventually suffocate because their lungs are paralyzed. So it normally is fast progressing infection. It eventually wouldn’t be able to hold its head up.

okay so I found some peas in my freezer to give him until I can run out to TSC to get the b complex. He was very excited for treats I also made sure he had fresh water. No issues eating or drinking and no issues showing with his neck or wings. The issue seems to be isolated with his legs he was wiggling his feet to scoot closer to the water and treats
