I have a duckling and he's in the feathering stage at the moment hes a very fast runner and loves running however I noticed that he was less lively when I saw him in the morning 2 days ago I put him on the ground and he couldn't walk on one of his legs he was holding it up and wouldn't walk on it when he did he ran for a little bit before he fell down he doesn't want to stand up much but hes eating drinking and preening himself occasionally I took him to a bird rescue centrer and she told me that he has sprained one of his legs. Im also worried about the eldest duckling whos very healthy and he sometimes stands on him do I take him out of the outdoor hutch and put him inside away from the others?
do you have any advice on how to look after him?
and do you think he has a chance of survival?
Its winter in NZ just so you know
any answers are always appreciated im so worried about him because I lost one called button to a chest infection

Did the Rescue Center offer you any advice for sprain care? I would do Epsom Salt Soaks and/or Compress to the legs up to 4x per day. I think you could make up a stronger saline solution, say 2 Tablespoons Epsom Salts per 32oz warm water. I would certainly separate the injured duck away from any ducks who want to play dominance or fight. A calm, mild duck as a companion would be a good idea tho, bcz your injured drake will experience stress if he is completely isolated from his flock. You should probly also plan to add a splash of Apple Cider Vinegar to his drinking water and also a Niacin supplement, either as a water-soluable poultry vitamin, or Brewer's Yeast sprinkled atop his food. Those 2 things are really more preventative, but they certainly will not hurt, and they might help. HTH

Here is Amiga's recent post on caring for a similar situation. She explains things much better than I do. Please read what she's written. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/909285/swollen-leg#post_13831595
