So we are on day 3 She was born Thursday am early... I've given her the vitamins as suggests by many of you. However today, she has been spitting up some thing. Looks like mucus?? This has happened twice today. I made a solution, from another page of this site; of yogurt and buttermilk and tried to give her a little wondering if that is the issue? Was it too early? She has been drinking on her own today from the waterer and will eat chic crumble ,if I place food on a towel. She is having trouble figuring out the feeder. She's been very needy today. And sleeping alot especially ially this afternoon... am I worrying for nothing??? Thanks

It's very risky trying to give liquids to such a tiny duckling Making sure none goes down the wrong way and into the lungs. Did she drink this on her own? What does the feeder look like?
I don't understand what the yogurt and buttermilk was for?

I used a dropper and syringe to give her the diluted solution.. the water I have given via syrung as droplets and have been letting her take it off the end as a droplet although it's a challenge but she did it. Today she used the waterer on her own. The buttermilk and yogurt was a solution suggeation from another forum on this site page used for wry neck to help them eat and take the vitamins, b complex and Vit E ,more easily.. see attached photos..
Now im.worried that while giving to her I may have inadvertently,, as you say, had it go down thE wrong way which I was unaware ... she is eating chic crumble and water on her own. But very lethargic this afternoon and she had done so well over the last 2 days..maybe just tired?? I have had her outside yesterday and tosay just to get her some sun . I'm with her the entire time...

I sure wouldn’t drip vit e oil into her mouth too easy to go down the wrong way. 400 Mgs is what I’ve seen is the dose. You can do drops along the bill or one drop at a time right inside the bill letting her swallow then another drop. Scrambled egg is another good way to get selenium into them and is another way along with vit e to treat wry neck. Poultry Nutri drench in her water or straight is also good. B complex crushed into her egg along with the vit e. I can’t really comment on giving yogurt or buttermilk since I’ve never heard of using it. I am pretty sure poultry are lactose intolerant though.

Thank you very much. This is all new to me. She was part of a school project and she hatched late with wry neck so have been trying to find all kinds of Info and.its been hit or miss. I appreciate the egg suggestion. Now how do I fix them?? Just scramble Like normally? Water them down? I assume crush the B as I have been and just cut the E and add it as well.? I have been sliding some down the side of her beak today seeing as she has been so tired but , she ate crumbles and water tonight on her own so I was hoping.... but she's just so tired.... I hope I haven't done anything I aut not... any further suggestions... since she did cough up some things?

@Miss Lydia any other suggestions... I have someone who has eggs in incubator hatching wondering if some other ducklings around would help?

Having a few buddies would probably be nice for her as long as she is sturdy enough to deal with them and not be trampled.
I scrambled the eggs I fed to my ducklings in the microwave. blend real well and put into a bowl I did it in 15 sec intervals till done then mashed them up real good and let cool mix the b complex and vit e into it after cooked because heat can destroy vitamins. Since she is so tiny you might could make the egg 2 meals just split it up? @New duck mommy 2021 has a duckling that has been fed scrambled eggs and he absolutely loves them.

you say she coughed up some things?

Yes watery stuff and a bit of food. After your last post I was worried. So we have been feeding her with a dropper her vitamins in water. She has been taking them quite well. She started eating very crumbled chixk feed and does well. But she does sleep alot. She's so much smaller than the new ones too. But I'll see if they are OK with her I do not want her trampled. Thank you for all tour advise

Sometimes when we pick them up if we mash their crop some water and food can come up. I don't know if this is when it happened or maybe she just overfilled her little crop.
I hope it works out for her to be with others because they really thrive on having friends. If they are to overwhelming maybe short visits till she is stronger would work. Plus you can always set up a small brooder inside your brooder so she is able to hear and see them and vise versa. When I had 2 week old ducklings and had 2 hatch I sectioned off the brooder so the 2 tiny ones were in the same brooder but wouldn't get stepped on. After 2 days they were all together. That way they got to share 1 heat lamp.

She was not very receptive to the new addition last night but when I checked on her this morning she was laying near them
Shea still very wiggly..kind of spastic... and can't lay still long unless she lays down. So she had a rough time. But they seem to be doing better. Her head is still very much sideways and she only uses one eye it seems to locate things... and when she gets excites she walks/ spins in circles. Its cute. But I feel bad her neck isn't full around so she can use her leftneye more.

shes is the smaller one on the left in the photo

And she.loves being held.
