HELP ~ Duckling VERY weak

Ahhhh...... I just saw this thread and soo sorry..... I know you worked hard with her. Was she the only bird in the brooder? She may have gotten too cold or too hot and not able to mobilize quickly to get near the heat or away from it? Praying you'll feel better soon and know that you did all you could to help her. :) usually they don't overeat as babies.....

Thank you

Yes she was the only one who hatched out of 3 eggs. It might have been too cold, our heating lamp was pretty tiny.

Unfortunatly, I found my duckling dead this afternoon :hit Just this morning, her health dropped so suddenly and I still don't know what has killed her. Can ducklings get overfed? I'm so depressed :rant

I doubt it if it was over feeding, she may have had some internal issues that were beyond any of our control. She had a really bad start in life and it's possible things could or would have gotten worst for her. Sounds like as soon as she started to eat good, she decreased very fast. I'm wondering if the internally issues caused her to look bloated and unable to digest her food, properly, giving you the sumption that she was over eating...

So it's probably best that she rests in peace now.

I'm sorry for your lost.....

Yes she was alone. Thank you for the information, that might be the cause since her stomach was bloated and she wasn't pooping.

Anyway, she also seemed to have an Eye infection and I was about to cull her. Thank God I didn' have to do that. She did have a stuffed duck with her but she didn't seem to like it. Anyway, thanks haha, will make sure to keep in touch with you in case my future ducklings have that problems!

It's always rough when you lose all your eggs in a clutch, and it feels ten times worse when one hatches and doesn't make it. :/ But thankfully we have our awesome community here at BYC. If not for the awesome people here I may not have tried to hatch ducks again, and I wouldn't have my awesome lil' dude today!

However, next time you DO incubate...make sure you do it right this time. Make sure you have a stock of heat lamp bulbs, for the love of bacon!
