i just hatchd a blue swedish duckling from my own stock. i have 3 hatched so far but one has a leg deformity its whole foot is curled back and he/she walks on her/his "ankle". i cant even open the foot up, is there something i can do for it or will it always be like that

I have a Khaki Campbell like that. I heard it is from being in the gg to long or something of the sort. You can give them a split. Search curled toes on the web and I think feathersite has a few pictures of it. Normally the tear it off, and somtimes the ducling will die but my Khaki is still gowing strong at 2 weeks.

I just had to cull one of my ducks with this problem. I tried several different things and none of them worked. Had been walking aroung on his ankles. When he started to lose weight because he could not get to the food fast enough, I decided not to let him suffer any longer. It was the kindest thing to do for him.

To uncurl the feet of a little duckling who hatched not quite right I once used little sticky foam pad meant for human feet. They were made for callouses and corns. A just cut a shaped section and stuck them to the bottom of the ducks feet- Within an hour it had learnt to walk with its shoes and within three days it was running around normal like the other ducklings.

You could try something similar to help your little one- But it may need help to learn to walk normally if it is currently walking on the ankles.
