We have 4 2 week old duckling that are drooling, a lot. Here are the details:

-We decided to start giving them food twice a day (per Story's book) because we were concerned about them growing too fast.
-Today was the first day we took the food away and when we come home from work we gave them back their starter crumbles and mixed in some grower pellets to start the food transition.
-After about an hour I went down to check on them and noticed drool and bubbles coming from their beaks.
-We immediately put them in a deep sink with warm water, where they are swimming and blowing their nares.
-When we massage their crop, a large amount of drool comes out.

Any ideas what this may be from? Did they just over eat/gorge themselves on food after being without all day?

Thanks so much!

My duck drooled alot when he swam-blowing his nose out. we always left food out for him to eat whenever. He actually doesnt eat alot?? But hes a big boy...Do they have a water dish deep enough to blow their noses out when they need to? I learned the hard way on that. always had water available but not deep enough:-(

I dont know why I didnt ask this first but baby ducks dont need the heat baby chicks do...Is it too hot in their "home"?

They are fine. You really don't need to limit their feed.

When they eat and drink it doesn't go down into a stomach like ours does.
It kinda hangs in the esophagus until it all works its way down.

Massaging them like that will make them urp and it can also cause injury.

Thanks Terrie.

We are liming the feed because one duckling got so big, so fast, it is as if she has trouble walking.

They are tons of space to get out of the heated area.

We appreciate the responses.
