help dyeing 8 week old chicken, dont know what is wrong

If it is coccidiosis, I would treat everyone...but, I don't know what to say about the ones you are going to butcher. I don't know what the withdrawal time is for Corid in meat...it's 21 days for eggs.

If this chicken dies, have her necropsied so that you know. That way, you will know if it is something you don't want to eat. However, I would say that I don't know of anything except a terrible systemic infection that would be unsafe to eat.

Check out the threads on Wry Neck...it is a vitamin deficiency disease. The tucking of the head under her sounds like Wry Neck.

Ok, I looked up coccidiosis and it says they don't show symptoms until the fourth day. I am scared half to death that I am going to loose the entire flock and its to late to prevent it.

My guy seems stronger but still has the symptoms. I am giving corid to all my chickens in their water as a precaution. Someone also suggested liquid baby vitamins which I will add also.
How is your girl? Better I hope ....

Still alive but no better. I am at work now and going to pick up some corid on my way home to treat her and give a preventative dose to the rest of the flock. Untilled I bought this new food I was feeding flock raises which is medicated against coccideosis and she got sick right after switching it so I am picking up a bag of that on the way home also. I will probably have to butcher early since I can't afford another batch of feed but they are all ready for it anyway I was just waiting untilled I had a week off work. The coop is dry but I am also picking up more pine shaveings to put down also and may try to let them out for a while tonight since they are big enough I don't think anything will bother them, I just don't think they will go back into the coop on there own since they don't roost.

I'm not sure how I will get her to drink the corid though hopefully it comes with a dropper because she wont take it on her own and isn't drinking. Other than blood in the stool which she don't have coccideoises sounds like what she has.

It doesn't come with a dropper. You need to get a dropper or dosing syringe from a drug store/walmart. Drip what you would think she would drink at one sitting into the front of her beak..a couple drops at a time. Do this every 2 -3 hours until she begins to drink on her own.

She was dead when I got home, I talked to one of the vets at msu about bringing her in to see what killed her and he told me it was most likely not coccideoises and explained why he didn't this k it was. He also told me what to watch for in the next week before butcher and also what to look for during butchering to be sure there is no sickness that would cause the meat to make me sick. I bought some corid and just got the dosage info from another thread to mix it up tomorrow as a preventative measure for the rest of the flock but they are all still seeming to be fine and happy.
