I forgot to mention that my vet also had me give Baytril. Call and ask them about Baytril and Meloxicam.

Okay, and where is a your chosen spot to put the needle. Do I need to worry about hitting an airsac?  

I usually do it on the back no further forward than where the wing attaches. Anywhere from there to about six inches towards the tail.
