Help! Egg is crumbling away and chick isn't ready!

Thanks for all your help. Now my question is, when do I try and put it with mom? Do I wait until the other two eggs hatch as well? Or does it not matter? Poor thing is lonely in my chick raiser box.

Good job!! Like Yorkshire said, the best time to do it is at night after they go to roost. Congrats!

OMG what an amazing outcome (so to speak!). It took a lot of patience and diligence on your part! And proved it can be done! What a special little chick!

Have to wonder if the broody hen STEPPED on the egg...kinda looks like that could be what happened...???

Okay I will put her back at night. However should it be tonight or after the other eggs hatch? I believe they are a day or two behind this one from candling. I checked them this morning and they haven't even pipped yet.
Also, I have no idea how it cracked. The other eggs are fine.

And also, is she going to be ok by herself? I worry cause the chick store guys say "you have to buy more then one or they'll die."

Don't listen to them!! Geez...she will be fine until the others hatch, just a couple days. If they don't hatch, then yes, I would think you could add a coupke more from the chick store as Plan B. They won't "die" right away...lol...she is just waiting on her siblings now

First, congratulations!! You did it!! I'm so happy that the chick survived. I do not think it would have made it if it was under mom with the shell gone and the bleeding. You really did right by that chick. The chick has absorbed the yolk so it should be fine with mom for a couple days. Like I've said, I'm just learning about broodys now and the one I had I was able to give her a chick that I had brooded inside for 2 weeks and she didn't even really notice! I mean she looked a little confused at first but then I threw some treats down and she forgot what she was confused about and called all the chicks over for a snack. It really depends on the hen but since she's been waiting for 21 days to get this reward I think she'll be fine. If you are going to wait until tonight then it can't hurt to have a small dish of water (with some marbles so the chick can't drown) and gently dip the chicks beak in it. Some chicks that hatch will eat and drink right away and others just want to sleep. Again, I'm so happy it worked out!

And I forgot what I was going to say about what the feed store guy said, it's best to raise more then one chick together if you are brooding them inside but I think one would be ok if it had its mama.
