HELP!! Eggs cold (50 degrees) for 18+ hours

could they hatch or has it been too long cold?

  • Some could possibly hatch, incubate them just in case.

  • No, sadly there's no way. You should get rid of them to forget this traumatic massacre.

I'm so heartbroken - my entire flock was killed last night from coyotes (sad tears). We had 9 total, one of them was a turkey. Looks like they killed all of them, but only ate a few. My husband and I have coyote proofed the coop (twice!), but they found a 12 inch weak spot to dig where the underground wire wasn't close together. My birds lasted two years before predators caught them, and I'm so sad.

I'm writing bc I think they were killed last night, and I found a bunch of eggs Silkie and Hen were sitting on about an hour ago. I opened a few and they were literally DAYS away from hatching! If I incubate them, is there ANY chance they might hatch? Some of them might be earlier in the process.

Thanks,
Rachel

eggs can go without heat for a surprisingly long time, up to twelve hours without losing many. I'd say it's worth a shot, they go into a dormant state. I'd get them back up to temperature ASAP and see what happens. I would not try and "warm them up" first without having the temp spot on, they need to go right back to the right temperature to assure their development resumes without going haywire. various enzymes that govern growth begin to function at varying temps and you don't want some to get ahead of others.

I'm so sorry for your losses… But did any of your eggs make it to hatch?
