Need some help from the more experienced "hatchers" here. I picked up 15 BR eggs from a local farmer on July 17th. Being a newie to hatching I did not know that I should have let them sit until the next morning before placing them in the bator. I put them in at 10pm. Temperature has been maintained between 99 and 100 with one spike to 102 for only a few minutes. Humidity has been between 45 and 50. I was all set to go into lock down on Saturday and to my surprise I heard cheeping this evening and the smallest of the eggs had hatched. One of the largest eggs has pipped too. The questions I have are as follows:

1) Do I go into lockdown now or wait until Saturday like I was planning?

2) Should I continue to turn the other eggs for the next 2 days? I have a homemade incubator and installed a turner so I don't have to open the bator.

Here is a pic of my new chick:

She is very vocal and seems to be very strong already.

Congrats on your hatch! That is such a cutie pie! You can go into lockdown now and stop turning the eggs. It looks like they want to hatch a bit early.

Definitely go into lock down and stop turning. Depending on how the farmer was storing them or the age of the eggs, they may have already been developing prior to you getting them which will mess up your calculation on dates.

Thank you both for replying. I pretty much figured that is what I should do. Sad to say the first chick has wryneck. I have started giving Polyvisol and electrolytes and I do see a little improvement. The second chick hatched just fine and now 3 more eggs have pipped.

Oh no! I hope it gets better

Glad to hear the rest are going strong though. Keep us posted!
