Please can anyone advise- our hen has been loosing feathers and now its got to a stage where is getting much worse, i have no idea what is causing this, we have 6 hens and this is the only one with this presentation. We have bathed all the chickens and have noticed the odd red mite which we are going to treat....could this be the cause of her feather loss or is it something else. Whats the best treatment for mites?

Hi there, i would say she is about 12 months old now, we had all of them since 7 weeks old

Looks/sounds like she's molting, as chickens usually molt at around 1-1 1/2 years of age. When they molt, hens stop laying, their combs and wattles shrink, and they may not act normal. Molts usually finish in 1-3 months, depending on the bird. To help her grow in new feathers faster, you can increase her protein intake by giving her wet cat food, mealworms, and other insects.
