Hey,everyone!
We have a silkie that was sick for a while with her eye. It had discharge and we were putting eye ointment and eye drops. Until one day it became yellow-white and smells really bad and is hard. Anyone can give an advice?

An infected eye with pus that smells bad might be a sign of a respiratory disease called coryza or even mycoplasma, especially if there is coughing, wheezing, or gasping. It also could be just from a peck or foreign body in the eye (dirt, fecal material, a seed pod, etc.) so others symptoms are important. The pus and gunky material should be cleaned out by applying saline or water to the eye, and removing the gunk with QTips, cotton, or tweezers. Then apply Terramycin eye ointment or similar twice a day. If you think there is a respiratory disease, separate her and start her on some Tylan 50 given orally 1/4 ml twice a day for 5 days, or some oxytetracycline in her water.

You can apply a warm compress to her eye for 10 minutes at a time to help soften any crust or pus. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries to get the pus out. There are a few good threads on "how to remove a pus plug from the eye" if you enter that in the search box at the top of this page.
