HELP!! FAST I think my chicken prolapsed. Final Update

Pollysmum has given you all the information needed...
I think if I were you, I'd cut the light back..and try to slow down the laying.

Ok, so day 2 update. She's acting fine, eating, drinking, and of course pooping. I think the only chicken that doesn't poop is a dead chicken, and I'm not 100% sure on that.

I tried again today to get the prolaspe in. Won't stay, she's all inflamed still, so it just pops out. I tried the sugar but that didn't help. I put more prep. H on it to help get it down a little. The tissue looks better today. So maybe it's just a matter of time. She's still in the cat carrier (to small) on a clean towel in a dark room. Should it be completely dark or just dim?

I think it was her first egg. I have a few that are slow to start and I'm sure she's one of them. I got 2 green eggs, besides her, and I have 4 EEer's 2 lay green and one lays pink. and this one just started, so it's the 3 green egg and it was very small.

She's got to show some improvement before tomorrow night. If I'm going to have to cull her, my mom is here and can teach me how to process a chicken. I sure hope it doesn't come to that. I don't want to lose her, and I don't want to learn to process a chicken

Keep trying! Keep the tissue moist and keep trying the sugar water. When one of mine prolapsed I used witch hazel instead of sugar water (I'm told it's less iritating). Maybe switch if you can and see what happens.

Good Luck!

Editied to say: Keep her in the complete dark, if possible.

Ok, she's in complete darkness now. I just wanted to make sure. I'll keep trying. I've got preparation H on it right now. Keep hoping that will work. Well, I keep hoping it will fix itself if you want me to be honest.

I'll keep working on her twice a day like they said and see where that will take me.

I need to do laundry though, It will probably scare her if I do.

Keep trying, it took until the third day for my hen's prolapse to stay in place. But each day it was healthier looking. Then it just stay put. I only used the honey as it was all I had.

Best wishes on her recovery.

Sorry about the gross chicken butt picture, but I think she might be getting better, and I'm new to chickens, so I need some experienced people to help. It looks to me that the puffy part is the lip that goes over the vent and that it's all sore and puffy and scabby. I think everything is in now. What do you think?

See other than that, she looks really good

 Gosh that looks horrible! I'd HATE to have to deal with that!!!

Your girl looks exactly like one of our EE's (Peep is her name - noisy as HECK when she arrived)

I hope your girl gets better soon!
