I agree it is OK to dispatch a predator risking your stock. But I think it must be as quick and humane as possible. It is not their fault they are not pampered pets and must kill to live. A quick death that is as painless as possible is the right thing to do.
I really wonder at people who enjoy killing....even these animals. Enjoying torturing or dooming them to an unneccessarily slow and painful death is SICK, IMHO.

I have killed raccoons and opossums, and have felt sad every time.

I ALSO think it IS ok to kill an animal, for certain purposes. In this case i think it is perfectly fine, but if your doing it for NO REASON then u are SICK!!!!! CRAZY, whatever ya wanna call em, but if they are killing YOUR animals, then they gotta go. I'd feel very bad, but u know ya had to do it to keep your animals safe.

And Good Luck!!!!!

I am only killing the animals i trap that i see that can do harm to my chickens -chicks-eggs they are in noway being tortured or anything like that the opposume wasnt kicked he was kicked at to make himm play dead so he could be shot in which he was i would never let one suffer or due harm to one to let them dye a slow painful death that is just sick and wrong so please dont take me the wrong way but any coon mink weasle opposume or anything else i feel will do farm to my animals will be killed and it will be quick and painless by being shot

Lovemychicks ,
Im glad to hear that quick and humane is your method. I respect that. I hope everyone is safe from here on out.

Good luck with your chickies.

So sad about your birds.

My best advice: Predator proof. Predator proof. Predator proof.

It is the only thing that has lasting effect. Do it well and then you needn't deal over and over with traps and all that follows - that task will never end - it's relentless.

p.s. Mercer County in what state? There's one in NJ....

I'm in mercer co WV we are working now on building a complete new cope and buring the 1" chicken wire 4" in the ground it will just take sometime to it get done and until then I am only letting them run during the day and locking them up at night and it seems to be working well that way and I'm going to have to build my flock back up so if anyone has any hatching eggs they want to get rid of pretty cheap let me know I'm in need of bantams and seabrights so please if you have any please let me know I dont have alot of extra where we are having to build a new entire run and coop that is the only way I feel they will be safe
