Just came out to the coop and my favorite rooster has a bad limp so I felt his leg and he has a swollen ring around his hip joint. Don't know what it is! There is no discoloration and the swollen part is hard!? Please lemme know what's up with his leg!

Ok we looked at it more and there is no cuts or bruising. It's around his knee kinda too. We r worried it's a tumor of some sort. He still eats and drinks tho and isn't pale or lethargic..

Is there any way to post pictures with what you are seeing or feeling? Can you take him to a vet? Could he have been injured by another rooster? Tumors are possible in chickens, and can be associated with a couple of viruses, or other tumors. I would limit his activity and keep him near food and water. A wire dog crate can be good for this.

Thanks for the input! The swollen part isn't really visible all you can see is a lump but you can feel it well. He's a salmon faverolle so the roos don't fight much at all and he doesn't have any other injury tho he is reluctant to open the wing on the side of his hurt leg? We think it's also possible he got stuck and dislocated it maybe? But we didn't think that would cause so much swelling with no color? We think it's weird that is swollen in a ring tho so we thought it's a weird place for a tumor but we could definitely be wrong. He's almost 2 years old Incase that helps!

Update on my boy! We left him with the others last night, my mom put him in a carrier today because we both had to leave the house and she wanted him separate but he got too hot when I got home so I moved him into a nice larger wire kennel outside instead of in the porch. Hes lol comfy now and he still is talkative but now he's walking worse. He's walking like his leg is getting paralyzed or maybe it's just sore because he was in a a carrier and couldn't move much? His lower leg is also swollen now... I felt the swollen spot around his hip and it feels hot to the touch now but doesn't seem bigger than it was yesterday.. he's still good in color and was trying to walk around.

That sounds like a dislocation. They do swell around the joint.
It needs putting back in place if it is dislocated as quickly as possible or he'll get tendon damage.
It's ajob for a vet really.:(

Omg I hope it's a dislocation vs a tumor!! My mom it a vet tech actually but she doesn't work with birds. She does know people that do though, maybe we can bring him to one of them and see if they can help?? Would his lower foot really get swollen though with a dislocation around the hip?

I don't know tbh. I could understand how it might if blood flow or a nerve had become damaged, or trapped.
Please bear in mind I cannot be certain that it is a dislocation. I've only had one adult chicken with a dislocated hip and he was at the vet that evening.
