HELP! Favorite hen gasping for air, comb turning purple!!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Hazel knew you loved her and did the best you could do. Take care of yourself and your DH.
 
If it was a respiratory infection, you usually would see nasal discharge, raspy breathing, sometimes runny eyes, and they breathe with their beaks open. If you're worried, it wouldn't hurt to add a little antibiotic to all your birds water. It could be the cold just stressed her to where her heart couldn't keep up. Their little hearts beat an amazing number of times per minute.
 
One of my hens is suffering these same symptoms. She has been gasping for air for a couple of days now. She is staying on her own in the coop, not eating or drinking and she doesn't even have the strength to hold her wings against her body anymore. I fear that she has a respiratory infection because one of my other hens has started coughing the last couple of days too. This is how the first hens symptoms started. I think it may be spreading through the flock.....
Is it totally wrong to put her out of her misery??

Too late, I just went to check on her again and she was gone.... R.I.P Lucy girl.... I'm sorry you had to suffer so.
