Help! first time duck owner! need advice and tips!

I respectfully disagree with others on this page. Yes, you can keep ducks and chickens together, but it is better to keep them separate mainly because ducks tend to be water hogs. They are both birds, but they are different species.

Ducks and chickens together depends on the ducks and chickens... and the setup also...

They always do best having their own housing IMO, but if you free range at all, *most times* they are fine free ranging together... breeds, sizes and individual personalities also are factors...

Many members have success with mixed flocks of both, many have not been successful and prefer to keep them separate... it all depends...

There are few examples in the animal kingdom of constant rape. Yes, rape. Drakes have the worst (IMHO) sexual habits anywhere. "Mounting" is the least of it. How about using the bill to give a death grip on the female's neck? And literally squashing her with total body weight looks pretty severe. Add to that the disproportionally long spiralled penis. The whole duck mating topic is pretty distasteful.
So when I just read about a drake mounting a chicken--well that could definitely lead to some bodily harm. Sorry if I sound overly hung up, but I didn't bring up the topic. Drakes are dang aggressive!
