Because Corid and Sulmet are both amprolium, do I need to keep both on hand, or just one or other?

I found Corid 20% powder at my local TSC. 10 ounces of Corid 20% is $22, whereas Sulmet is MUCH more expensive.

Because the reccomended dosage is 4 oz to 100 gallons, I think making only a gallon or two at a time, 10 ounces will last me a LONG time.

Obviously, I won't need 100 gallons for less than 60 birds, so to make one gallon at a time it would be 0.04 ounces, or around 1.18 CC's at that dosage.

If I am thinking correctly -

4 oz. x 4x 1
-------------- * --------- = ------- = ----- = 0.04
100 gal. 1 gal. 100 25

Or, more simply, 4/100 = 0.04 / 1.18 CC.

Both of these measurements are TINY. I could get close with a 10 CC syringe, but not sure how potent this stuff is, or just how specific it has to be.

So, How do ya'll dose?

Castportpony can give you exact dosages, she is great at figuring dosages. Here we just use 1 teaspoon of corid in a gallon of drinking water, make sure it is the only source of water available and do this for 4-5 days. Remember with Cocci you are not really looking to rid the bird of it completely, you just need to knock it down and give the bird a chance to build up that resistance. I used this mixture on the adults and the 8 week olds alike.

Corid and Amprol are both amprolium, Sulmet if a sulfa drug (sulfamethazine) and it only treats two strains of chicken coccidiosis (Eimeria tenella, Eimeria necatrix) and two strains of turkey coccidiosis (Eimeria meleagrimitis, Eimeria adenoeides). Peafowl are not listed on the bottle.

The dose on the Corid bottle is for Cattle and poultry get twice as much, so ignore it.

The FDA recommended dose is water medicated at .024%, which is 4.536 grams of the 20% powder (1.5 teaspoons) or 9.5ml of the 9.6% liquid. I will post the math and other Corid dosing info on when I get on the computer.

Okay, thank you Kathy. I will definitely save the link for the dosing. Also good to know that I won't have to get the Sulmet for the peafowl, but rather Corid or Ampro. The Sulmet is very expensive!

So much to learn!
