Help! Flies are eating my chicken!

Helo! Flies are awarming my chicken and she has some kind if black stuff all over her! Im not sure what to do and im really scared.

**UPDATE!: I am saddened to say that she was euthanized later today. I've never cried over a chicken, but today I did. Atleast she isn't in anymore pain, I found out there were maggots eating her insides.

Bring the bird inside..... indirect the area, bathe the area sand indirect again so you know what you're dealing with. At that point we can better help you

How long has she been like this? I think the black could be blood.

I agree with above, bring her in, inspect, bath, and inspect again.

When you're inspecting her, be gentle and watch for wounds. I'd use a mild dial antibacterial soap when you bath her. Lukewarm water.

For future reference - if she had maggots, then it sounds like she had FlyStrike. Flies lay eggs on open flesh (a small wound, cut, prolapse, wet dirty vent, etc.). I'm so so sorry.

I completely understand how upsetting it is.

Sometimes we don't realize how much we really do care about those birds until we have to say goodbye.

It's so hard but you did the best thing for her.
