help for a newbie

When I moved my (3) 6 week old chicks out to their coop, they didn't know to go into the hen house at night either. The sun would start to go down and they would take turns pushing each other off the ramp to the house, but they wouldn't go in, and then once there was hardly any light they couldn't see to go in. They would end up huddled underneath the ramp and I'd have to go out and put them to bed. This went on for about a week or so until they finally started to get it and go in by themselves. Then they would still just sit in the doorway though. I did not let them out into their free range run until they went into the hen house on their own. I think at that point they had explored the entire coop and hen house so they were ready for something new. I knew this because they would sit at the coop door like they were waiting for something. They are about 13 weeks old now and have just started going up on the roosts on their own about a week ago. Now they sit at their free range fence gate looking at me like they're going to get out into the rest of my yard! I don't think so:lol: Not with a rose garden, vegetable garden, and rock garden ripe for chickens to feast on and destroy!
