have a look into chicken saddles,these were invented for the protection against feather damage.
they look a bit like a suit of armor,especialy the butterfly saddle,they also look quite simple to slip on the hen:

search 'chicken saddle' or 'chicken apron' on ebay.com as they are for sale on there,including some snazzy looking custom jobs.
