Help for newbies in North Carolina

Again, I thank you all for your much needed info; I feel great now. My husband got the feed store to take the cracked corn back and got a bag of grower feed. You have given me lots of ideas of what to add in from my pantry.

Thanks to the 2 of you from NC; I got the nerve to get my Rhoadies after seeing this site and adding it to my 'favorites.' I spent a lot of time with them when they were wee bits of chicks and I still sing to them; they love it. It is amazing how much one can love chickens and I wait for the day when the healthy nutritious eggs start to roll in in the Spring.

I'm a newbie in NC too - if you are in the Raleigh area, I have an extra 20 lb bag of grower feed - unopened. My hubby and I hit the Agri Supply store on the same day and by the time we finished the first bag, the girls were graduating to the next stage. If you are local, give me a shout and I'll be glad to drop it off or meet you somewhere with it.

Cracked corn and scratch is fine as a steady diet for roosters, they dont need protein like hens do. That much I do know

OK, keep feeding the grower until you see eggs, then you can switch over to layer. BTW, just because someone works in a feedstore, it doesn't mean they know squat about chickens and what to feed them. You're at the right place to get that kind of advice.

welcome. feel free to post in the new members section! or the north carolina section

You could always take some eggs and blend them whole in a blender. then scramble them. then re blend them with a lil water or milk. then you will have a good protein boost. also hear cheap cat food works.
