Help! Found Dead Pullet This AM!

Yup, still warm. The others were up on the roost real quiet. Only after I removed the body did they all hop down and head out of the coop. I quickly got her in the spare refridgerator and started making phone calls.

What does everyone think about the feet being straight up and then resting down on her body within 5 to 10 minutes?

Sorry My last post was answering this question from mom23! i would say up to 1 hour.
My dear chook died suddenly like that when she had 2 little chicks. I put it down to a heart attack as the Chicken Hawk was hanging around in a tree above the covered coop.

I know that rigor is affected by temperature...so if it's really hot it's quicker than if it was cold. It also depends on how long she had been dead when you found her.
When my DH got me up for Slifer's passing, she was completely limp, so she had gone closer to midnight than early morning.

All I know is that you can figure that body temperature will fall one degree for the first hour that they are gone. I can't remember what the configuration is when the outside temperature is taken into consideration. I'm so sorry for your loss. I hate it when things happen like this. Here's hoping for the best for the rest of your flock. Just an FYI...the internal body temperature of a live chicken is 107 to 107.5 degrees farenheight.

I just got the results of the necropsy by phone. It turns out the right side of her heart was malformed at birth. She suffered a massive cardio embolism. We are relieved to find out there is nothing we could have done to prevent this, and that the rest of the flock is safe.

Aawww just read the posts, sorry to hear about your chicken. I guess it just happens. Just wanted to say Sorry.
