Help - Found This Chick...

LOL, loks like a hen pulled a fast one on you!! I collect my eggs daily as well and my hens are kept in a large run with a house inside that they roost in at night and lay eggs. Well on the top of the house theres a small crawl space that I use sometimes for storage but I have never had any chickens even try to get up there but the other day I came around the corner rather suddenly and caught my new game hen (that also just showed up one day and never left) flying down from up there. I went and got a ladder and looked up there and she had taken vegetables, corn cobs, potatoe peels and 12 eggs she had been stashing when I wasnt looking!

My RIR girl was reddish-orange with paler belly. Is this a baby boy RIR??

Thanks everyone - I guess the RIR hens have been hiding eggs - though I sure didn't see any.

It is a personable little bird though - not like a normal chick. I thought it was more yellow than our others were as chicks but.... You guys are the experts for sure!

It sure is weird you didn't find any more eggs. All of mine are either production reds or RIR/PR mix and he/she looks just like mine at about 2 weeks .

I know - it is weird. I've been out there still looking daily for the past two weeks and NOTHING. The right amount of eggs in the boxes everyday and no other eggs anywhere. There's nowhere to hide either. All the girls are accounted for - we've only got 4 hens so they can't go unnoticed very easily. Very odd but...I guess I'll just be thankful for our new chick. Again - thanks everyone for 'solving my mystery' of the unknown chicken.

It's possible someone dumped the chick, and picked your place because they saw you have chickens.

Yes, we do have an adult roo that could be the culprit - just no one is sitting on eggs and there aren't any 'stray' eggs anywhere. That's true that someone could have dropped him off, but we're on 57 acres and no one can really see we've got them so...who knows.?? Hard to say but I'm glad it's here no matter the reason.
