Hello. I had a fox get in my coop and have one Polish hen alive but barely.

She is breathing but her neck feels like it has a crook in it. Eyes shut and laying down. She won’t stand up on her own. No other injuries. Assuming she has head trauma and in shock from attack.

I gave her a little water and electrolytes and have her insured just lying down.

I’m not sure what to do next. Just leave her alone lying down to rest or how I can help with her head and neck trauma. I don’t know if it’s broken or if it’s the right thing to do is put her out of her misery.

Any advice is much appreciated

Treat her for shock by keeping her in a warm dry quiet place under no bright lights . She may have unknown injuries or internal bleeding so move her little as possible. Make any necessary repairs to your coop before putting her back in the coop. The fox will be back!

It sounds like she may have a broken neck if she has a crook in it. Are you saying she is the only survivor out of the whole flock? Sorry this happened to your girl!

Sorry about the fox attack. Do you have other survivors? Be sure to make the coop predator proof for the. If her eyes are open, you could offer some sugar water for the shock, up to her beak or given with a dropper or syringe to the side of the beak. If the fox caused a head or neck injury, she may have wry neck/torticolis, which is a neurological condition. It may be treated with human vitamins E 400 IU and 1/2 B complex or super b complex tablet daily. Keep her quiet in a calm and dim setting. A little later, you may be able to part her feathers and see green bruising where she was grabbed. Look again for any gashes or puncture wounds. Mushy wet chicken feed and soft cooked egg are great to offer if she starts drinking and seems more alert. Let us know how she does in the next few hours.

It has a curve to it. Ya the fox got the rest of them in the coop. I think she may have also hurt it from putting her head in between the fence chains to try and get out of the run and twisted it that way. It’s hard to know what happened

Thank you! The fox dug into the run and one chicken had kept blocking the automatic door so wouldn’t shut fully, assuming fox got in run and was able to get in coop that way. I think fox might have shaken her or she got her head stuck in between the chain lined fence holes and twisted it. Her eyes aren’t open. She hasn’t opened them one time which isn’t a good sign. I’m just hoping she pulls through

I hope your girl pulls thru and shows some improvement by late morning ! Adding an apron and a covering on the run should prevent anymore attacks from a fox.
