HELP! Goat got into Chicken Grower/finisher and possibly in labor OR Bloat?

I actually looked it up in the forum.

It says you can, you just wont get as good of a hatch rate. so I might throw her egg from yesterday under her, see what happens. Worst comes to worst it just wont hatch.

Ugh. Still no babies.

I got some Goat Nutridrench, though. Gave each of the does an oz of that. My little doeling seems a bit.. off. Lays a lot, doesn't run around like she should be, and shivers despite it being 90 degrees. I worried about her having a selenium deficiency so I gave her a shot of the drench. Her under eyelids seem sort've pale, too, so she might need a good worming. I'll try and get that tomorrow. Her belly feels a bit bit, so I'm pretty sure it's worms.

what do you guys think?

She's a week or so old. What does she need to be given right now? A Vaccine for the C&D?

OK, at a week and a half old she will not have a worm problem. Do not worm her. Even a coccidia problem won't have cropped up yet at that age. The most common parasites have a three week old lifecycle from oocyst (egg) to adult. While coccidiosis is a huge killer of kids, it is one that too, takes three weeks to begin causing problems for a kid. Which is why preventive treatments are given in three week intervals, starting with a kid at three weeks old.

You need to get a temperature on her ASAP. A lower than average temperature is indicative of a gut issue. What is she eating? Is she a dam raised kid or a bottle one? If she is a bottle kid, what is going into that bottle? How much is she eating with each feeding? How often is she eating?

The vaccine (toxoid) for CD will do nothing. It takes two weeks for the body to begin producing antibodies after a vaccination. What she needs is the CD antitoxin as a preventive measure in case it is enterotoxemia starting to rear its ugly head.

She's dam raised and I've been making sure she's nursing every so often, but I'm not entirely sure she's eating a lot.

I'll try and find a thermometer, I believe I have one around here. Would a human one work and do I just.. stick it up her rear?

Got her temp. It's 105.1.

It may be worth mentioning she also squats to pee a lot. I thought she had a UTI for a while. Could a bladder infection be causing this?

I think a human one would probably work. Though I think one for a dog would be more accurate, because dogs and goats both have higher average body temperatures than humans.

Yep, up the rear. I hope you have some thermometer covers? Or else the thermometer might need to be for animal use only now, unless you can clean it really well.

Temperature can tell a lot about an animal's health. Certain problems cause low temperatures, others cause them to have fevers.

Is the kid scouring at all, or is her stool normal?

She will need vaccinated for CDT. But right now, if she is acutely ill and it might be enterotoxemia, that can come later. This page about enterotoxemia has symptoms as well, which could be important for you.

One preventive method for CD is making sure dams are up to date on CDT, and also give the dams a booster about 100 days to a month before kidding. That way, the dams pass on passive immunity for it through the placenta then through the milk as the kids nurse (IgA is an antibody secreted in milk) to help protect the kids. If the dam is not vaccinated, then she can't protect her kid until you give the vaccine. And even then, the vaccine takes time to cause an immune response.

I don't recall ever having a kid with a UTI but with a temperature that high, your kid has an infection of some sort. She needs antibiotics ASAP.

I'll take her to the vet, that's about all I can do is call them and let them know and see if they wont give me some Baytril or antibiotics for her. My Care credit is the only thing that work in terms of money.

WHOA holy fever! Do have any other symptoms? You said she is lethargic, peeing a lot?

I think if it is a UTI, then the only way to be 100% would be for a vet to do a urinalysis. But since that is expensive and your vet has proven to be less than reliable, perhaps getting her started on a course of antibiotics wouldn't hurt. What do you have on hand? Can you get a weight on her? If you have a human scale, since she is small, you can easily weigh yourself, then hold her and weigh both of you, then subtract your weight. In order to give a proper dose, you need her weight.

Is she scouring at all? Scours are another word for diarrhea. Also, I'd recommend joining up at The Goat Spot. More goat peeps there, will be able to help you out even more! I have to go take care of my clan for the evening, signing off for a bit. Post in the health and wellness section everything you've posted here. Temp, behavior, age, what you've done, etc.

I've been bounced from vet to vet five times now. None of them want to prescribe antibiotics to a goat.

I've got nothing here, all my baytril went to my chickens. The only place that I know of with penicillin would be like.. TSC? Would that work for her? Maybe if I leave my drivers license there or something..?

As for other symptoms not really? Just sleepy and lethargic. Grunts a bit more than usual and some tummy gurgles.

With the Endotoxemia would it cause a fever? As for scours, not sure.. Haven't seen her poop. she has before but not recently that I've seen
