Help! Gosling hatched with yolk sack still attached!

I *just* had one do the same thing and thought for sure it was going to die. I think I gave it some Baytril (not 100% sure) and got it drinking and eating right away, so if I were you, I would give it a chance. You'll know soon enough if it might make it.

Hindsight is always 20/20. I had lined the incubator in damp paper towels. I think the still attached egg shell or its nails must have cut it. It was jumping around like crazy. This is breaking my heart. I'm trying to decide if I should cull it.

Sorry to hear about your gosling, I had a chick hatch the same only all it,s insides was with the yolk sac, it had to be culled. It was heartbreaking but we had no choice. Hope yours makes it

How do y'all cull them? I recently hatched some for a neighbor and one chick had something hanging out that should of been in, I believe. We didn't want to cull it, so she just put it in with the other chicks. (It ended up dying). She was considering using a shovel to cull, but I don't think either of us would of been brave enough to do it.

Most people (from what I have read, I have not had to cull one yet,) hold it over the garbage and snip it's head off. Or break the neck quickly in one way or another.

The gosling died. I was giving it food and water and it didn't want to eat or drink. Tried every hour. I couldn't cull it either. It kept looking at me with those beautiful blue eyes. Gave it a burial in our pet cemetery. I hate this live and learn part of animal husbandry. I just hope this thread saves someone else's baby.

That was my reaction the first time I read it. They were talkiing about the most "humane" way to cull a sick/deformed chick.

Sorry to hear that. Usually if the yolk ruptures they don't make it and honestly it is so hard to keep them from rupturing it. They don't know when to stay still and just rest.
