help grass

    Hi does anyone know of a way to grow and keep grass in a chicken pen i have about 25 in this pen and its 65 by 32 but i cant keep grass

    It's hard to do if they can range on everything but if you can block an area off where you plant grass leaving them in separate area until the grass is ready then section off the side they were left in to plant grass it's hard to do because by the time your grass is ready the grass they started on will be gone unless you only let them in the new grass area for limited time. I grow grass under my coop in summer that they can't get to except once a week or when cleaning run and coop

    The simple answer is "you can't keep grass in a run with chickens.". However, with a little bit of work, you CAN grow grass by making frames out of 2x4s on their sides and covering the top with chicken wire, then sowing seed in the frame. The sprouts have a chance to root and the chickens can pick at the grass as it grows up through the wire.

    You can't keep grass and chickens. One or the other, not both.
