this chick has been trying to hatch for the last 30 hours. It finally made its way out of the shell but I noticed the umbilical cord is still attached!! What do I do!?!!

Thanks for your help! There’s so much information out there, I was frantic trying to filtering through all of it! I read somewhere to put antibiotic ointment on it.. I haven’t done that yet, but is this a good idea to do so?Hi JoannaRae, just leave it in the incubator or hatcher, whichever you have it in. It should dry up when the chick dries off and fluffs up. If it's still attached to the shell, you can pinch it off at the shell. HTH
Probably would be, yes. I always put some on the raw navels just as a precaution. If the chick is struggling and pulling on the cord then pinch it off. Not worth waiting for it to dry and possibly having the intestines prolapse because of that. If it's resting, it's fine, though. Thanks for your help! It pulled it off on its own by moving around while I was getting ready for work. It is bleeding slightly (spotting) at the site of attachment. The baby also just had an explosive poo..Probably would be, yes. I always put some on the raw navels just as a precaution. If the chick is struggling and pulling on the cord then pinch it off. Sure, sounds great, as long as it doesn't have painkiller. Slight bleeding shouldn't be an issue, just watch it.It pulled it off on its own by moving around while I was getting ready for work. It is bleeding slightly (spotting) at the site of attachment. The baby also just had an explosive poo..
Does neosporin work? That’s all I have on hand
