Help Help Help! Hatching emergency and I need info!

BTW I meant to tell you that I'm happy to email you, but I think it's really helpful for this discussion to remain on the board where others can learn from it. I will send you a quick email note though so you have my address in case you don't get a timely response on the boards at some point.

ok well i went ahead and clipped the air cell membrane so we could see if he was breathing alright. We now see a little beak popping out, but left a little of the membrane over his head so he still has to get the strength to push himself out. Don't wanna do all the work for him unless absolutely necessary, but now he is wiggling around a little more than he has been in the last 5 hours!

Some of the membrane near his sides and rear are still bloody and kinda stuck to him, so we will just keep him warm and moist, and hopefully he will slough out of the shell soon! Fingers crossed!

Does anyone have a pic of what position a duck should be in the shell while its hatching? Just wondering if they are supposed to be in one position only to hatch, or if they can be curled up in different positions in the egg during development. This guy looks all bent out of shape, so just curious!

Ok really freaked out now! His beak is exposed and has ben for about an hour, he looked like he was gonna do great and was making little movements more often.....now I can not get anything out of him! I have tapped the table, cheeped, and spoken to him and get get any movement out of him! Is he gone? Should I jsut let him be (maybe takin a break?) or should I try to pull him out or ????????? Please help!

Update, we cleared the membrane from around his nostrils and he is moving again! been moving every once in a while for 3 hours now, and is now opening and closing his bill a little every once in a while. We will be staying up tonight to keep him moist and to check his temperature, and hope for the best! I'm hopinh to have a cute little fluffy baby by tomorrow morning so i dont have to wait n see all day for him! fingers crossed!

PS: If he makes it through this, we have decided to name him 'Jayne' form Firefly.....cuz if he makes it through this ordeal then he's a badass! >X3

Im taking a shower before my hubby goes to bed, then I get to take the mommy nigh shift of atchin tha baby. Ill post pics/videos soon!

How's he doing? I was so excited to get your message this morning. I mean, I know they sleep and rest during the process, but I would have thought he'd respond to prodding and such, or that you'd be able to see him breathing. SOOooo happy he's still kicking. And Jayne is a perfect name. People will say, "Aw, what a sweet name for the little thing," and you'll say, "No, it's a kick-$ss name for a tough little mofo" and they'll look at you like you're crazy and it will be awesome.
