Help! Hen attacked by Bobcat, huge gash in back!

Good luck with your hen! Just yesterday I was admiring all the birds on your website. I would love to have such a stunning flock someday.
I hope the hen pulls through.

Sorry to hear about your girl! On Sunday, I found one of my hens, Chloe, had a huge gaping hole in her back near her wing. After totally freaking out, I looked up 'gaping wound' on here and came up with this wonderful post. Look part way down. I printed it off for future reference.

I too didn't have Neosporin and had to send my DH to the store at 8pm on a Sunday night. I really need to get a 'real' first aid kit together. Actually, this post has a pretty good listing for items for injuries.

Say your prayers and give her lots lovin'. Working for me.

Good luck!

Possum attack my minorca pullet, left a big hole in her back at the base of her tail. I kept her to herself and cleaned the wound w/ applecider vinegar and packed the wound w/ vaseline. She's just fine now learned that frome my grandmother.

#1.....I can't believe you chased a bobcat down!!

#2 I am just thinking out loud here. I know that a domesticated cats saliva is deadly to some animals with out antibiotic. Mostly small animals like squirrels and bunnies. Their saliva carries so much bacteria. Could this also be true with bobcats? I would flush the wound a lot. And maybe think about an antibiotic.

Maybe someone else can put their thoughts in on this. But I thought I would mention it. So sorry this happened to your hen.

Illia........you can also crush up 1/4 regular aspirin in 1 cup of water for pain.

Good luck with her. I had a pullet catch herself on a nail and rip herself up pretty good, and she healed perfectly.

Hi Illia. Sorry to hear about your girl. How is she doing?

Nevermind. I just saw your other post.

Hopefully the bobcat won't be come back and the rest of your flock will be safe.
