I need some help. Totally new at this.
1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Easter Egger. Unknown age & weight cuz we found them. They look older.
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Wandering around "in a daze" & falling asleep while standing. Kinda stands there like a drunk person.
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No.
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
We have a rooster who we thought had a back injury but, maybe now think mites or bugs. He was treated and is eating/drinking & pooping fine. He still will not stand all the way up (like his thigh muscles don't work properly). He scoots around the crate to eat & drink. They all ate some thistle seed the other day, maybe that? Also, turned up the old dirt in their coop to clean it out a bit. Maybe something in the old horse/goat/pig area dirt? Maybe mold of some sort as there were little white specks of ??? in the dirt. I am stabbing in the dark here for the reason.
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Drinking water, eating watermelon, not interested in lay mash.
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Did have the runs (copper brown) the other day but, checked vent yesterday and it looked clean (I think). No crusty poop or runs back there. Have not seen the poop today as I leave for work at 5:00am and it is dark out.
7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Isolated her and dusted her w/ poultry dust.
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
I will try to treat myself.
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
No pic.
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use
They all live in a converted 4 stall horse barn. One side is the nesting side w/ boxes and straw. Other side is food, water, & grass. Both have dirt floors that have housed horses, goats, and pigs in the past.
Any suggestions as I will be at the feed store again looking for something to help her. Also, dusting the hell outta them all when I get home.
Thank you all very much!!!!!! I feel horrible seeing her like this. I feel like it is my fault they have bugs. My fault because I am lazy and probably not properly cleaning or something. This situation lit a fire up under my a*s, for sure.
