Help! Hen turned inside out-Updated

One of my Browns turned inside out when she laid today. I have a neighbor that tells me to put her in the soup pot because she won't live. Is this true or is there something I can do to save her?

Look up Prolapse and you'll find some answers to see if that what it is. She can live but it can also be reoccurring.

Thank you! I will try some of the remedies I have found here. I have her isolated and will monitor her. My DH also said she would have to go to the soup pot so I will have to show him these ideas.

Personally, I would soup pot her but that's because mine are working hens. If it is a pet, I am sure it can recover. Good luck.

Ours are suppose to be working chickens too. But we are new to chickens and they have only been laying for five weeks. It makes them more like pets for now. Although even with the cows (dairy farming for twenty years now) we tend to try and save them even when it looks hopeless.

Dispite being in hospital and in the dark she laid an egg today. Everything appears to have gone well. It also made egg number 12 for the day. We have 12 hens. That's a first for us!
