Oh I dont' think I'd check her that often honestly. You won't be neglecting her if you don't. Just the same twice you'd check your other chickens.

Is she eating, drinking? Is there maybe a smaller place you can put her with out her being caged, something that doesn't require much maintenance?

Now if you're having to still hand feed her, etc, then there's room for reevaluation at the end of the week. But at least a few days, a week, to see if she's going to be more interested in living after giving her some nutritional boosts - some feed, maybe a bit for energy or interest, rebuild her electrolytes etc (which should just nearly be done now if she's been drinking) etc.

she is in a box with a Styrofoam "frame" around her to help her keep her balance or she goes to the side. There is a place for food and water where she can reach it. She seems satisfied enough and when i went out today she had herself turned backwards in the box so she is able to scoot herself. She was scooting a little in the grass today too to get at some scratch grain I thought might motivate her to move.

That is encouraging!

Sounds like she is doing just fine. It will take a while for her to be back to her old self. Checking on her a few times a day is plenty. As long as she is improving, I would keep her.

Just keep in mind, I had a different roo that was injured, and when it was way past the time I thought he should be healed, he was still laying on his side and wouldn't stand up. I began finding little "presents" around the room, and actually caught him outside of his "hospital box" one day. When he saw me, he flopped over on his side and started that pitiful whining they do.

They aren't as stupid as we think they are!
