Help! Hens attacking new rooster!

Quote:
I agree with this. After quarantine, put him in the roost after they've all gone to bed. Their little chickie brains get reset and they are never the wiser that he wasn't there all along.

I know this is an old post! I am having the same thing happen.
Maybe I should post new?
So two weeks of meet and greet after initial quarantine!
Although my new Roo is homegrown from a neighbor with no issues of disease.
He charged top old bird Foxy my New Hampshire Red. He attacked her and all the hens attacked him.

Draw blood or did you break it up?

I never break it up unless there’s blood. They seem to figure it out quickly with a cockerel or rooster. He went to top because it was fastest way to his spot.

No blood, I didn’t break it up until all the hens attacked him. What a site!
All the hens protected the top bird but I noticed she roosters lower this evening. Through the fence the two been fluffing up and getting tall and pretty much sizing each other up. The roo is 7 months old. He did eat scratch with several hens and ignored them.
I will keep him separate for awhile longer and watch them again. Unless this is normal! Oh boy - I had 11 hens getting along just fine... and Pretty Boy shows up.
I am learning as I go- and this is my first Rooster.

Give it a couple days. Let them in together and then don’t stop unless it gets ugly. As soon as one gets upper hand, it’ll stop as fast as it started.
He ignored the others eating scratch because they were indifferent or submissive to him.

Your right he zoomed in on the top hen and pecked her! He knew she was high in flock hierarchy.
So he did mate with one, but tried with another and she ran from him. He didn’t chase her, also I didn’t see any mating dance? He is only 7 months. Hope it works out, if it doesn’t I will cull him but I will give him more time to adjust. He seems to like his separate sleeping area. And is smart keeps going there after I placed him there.
So why would placing a roo in a coop at night work? Are they really that simple?
I might just be overthinking it all.

I had the sam problem with my chickens. They kept picking my rooster and pulling out his feathers to the point of bleeding and this was during the winter. I ended up having to put duct tape all over him to protect from cold and the chickens pecking. I also tried "Stop Pick" which did not help. Well the long story short I ended up putting him in the dog pen and he sleeps in the dog house. He has healed very nicely and is as handsome as he used to be. Now I let him and the girls out to free range together during the day but he is quite happy to head back to his dog house at night.
