So my 5 year old hen stopped walking a few months back and signs pointed to cancer my doctor / vet said. We made her comfortable and now 4 months later she is walking again but just chills at home indoor with us. She eats drinks Sings and walks around , slowly but she wobbles here and there. Today I noticed under her top layer of feathers a raised area and then lifted it to find this! I thought maybe a severe case of molting? No mites are present & it almost looks as if her feathers became ingrown under her skin as you can feel it's very raised and she plucked a few of the "infected ones" which cause it too bleed

ANY help or advice will be much appreciated !!! Thanks !!!

I saw this yesterday, and really don't have an answer. I would try soaking her in warm water with either Epsom salts or dish soap. For any of the blood feathers still bleeding, I would pluck them out. I hope that someone who has seen this before will chime in, but I'm stumped. There are some viruses that can cause skin lesions, such as Mareks and lymphoid leukosis, but I can't say what this is.

Thank you so much! I'm back on the farm Friday night. It's been like this for weeks and I don't know what to do. So I should pluck the bloody feathers like before ? Cause I don't want her to get infected inside

what about trying an anti-septic wash? Or salt water wash? how does it smell? sometimes you can smell an infection. hope this helps x
