Help... He's charging me

I have raised and studied my turkeys for 3
years. And as a previous person said before,
they could like you and want attention.
My turkey bites me everytime he wants attention. so i have to pet him
And are they hungry?
They might need mates, my one turkey hated my mother
but when a wild hen visited him he didn't mind my
mom so much. So it could be multiple reasons.

Usually when they are aggressive, I pin them to the ground
to stop them (but they usually don't attack anyone/me).
I'm not afraid of getting bitten by poultry.

you could also bind their wings so they don't fly
up at you

Hear ye... Hear ye... hear ye.... There has been success @ Nana's place

They didn't eat out of my hand but sure got close. I gave them grapes... like candy

. And when I was cleaning out their coop I opened the nesting area (which they NEVER use) guess what I found

Glad to hear it! Another morsel to try, for training them to the hand, is to run down moths or grasshoppers and hold them between your fingers (almost impossible to resist).

I am glad it's working out... I really think they just wanted to see you. Sometimes when I am sitting out in the garden weeding and hear a noise behind me. I turn around and all of the turkeys are there watching and muttering to each other. Probably trying to figure out why I am tossing perfectly good food in a pile

Just remember that turkeys are actually really curious about things and have to go check it out. If you are the one that feeds them, they were probably running to see if you have food.

It is unuasual for a RP to be aggressive and at 4 months! I don't know if they were in attack mode unless the flew up and kicked at you. They don't have spurs yet so they can't really hurt you yet. Just like the others stated, don't show any fear of them and show them who is boss. I am glad they(or you

) are doing better. Any at my place that turn arrgessive and won't stop become dinner.

I agree completely there... too many nice birds to tolerate a mean one. I am not really fond of RP. Maybe it was because the ones that I had were hatchery birds but they were really flighty. If I went into the pen at night I had to duck and cover my heard because they would panic and fly everywhere which would make all of the birds panic. I know it would have been easier on them to just not go in after dark but in the winter here the sun comes up close to 8 AM and by 5 PM it would be getting dark again. At the time I was working from 7 AM to 6 PM so I had to go in after dark. Once they were gone the remaining turkeys stayed calm and barely woke up when I went in with a flashlight.

So glad to read this thread.....I have two turkeys, both turned out to be toms, and I've wondered if they will get mean. So far, they are just very curious boys....interested in everything that I do, but not mean at all......At least I'll know what to do if they change once the male hormones come into play.....

I'll buy some grapes!
