So my two year old buffy got broody and I gave her some eggs from ebay, ( my sister asked for stupid chickens that don't get out on my day at work, so I got more buffys).
miss buffy has been a great mother, I drag her out of her dogcrate in the kitchen twice, three times a day for food and water. she runs back in the house and jumps in her crate after 5 mins out doors. ( its been too cold and rainy for her on the porch, so she is in the house, ignoring dogs cats, vacum cleaners)

I did not expect mailed eggs to hatch under a first time mother. ( she has turned them with religon)
this morning I put her out and picked up an egg and it CHIRPED!!!
THREE EGGS OR MORE ARE NOW CHIRPING,( out of eight).its 7 pm and I hear a lot of chirping eggs, more intense.

what do I do now? will they hatch tonight? I have a baby waterer and baby food,,,
miss buffy, soon to be mom buffy, seems to know what to do,,, how do i help? not help?
I was calm until now....miracles are under way....
all advice accepted with graditude.....

Buffy knows what she is doing they should be hatched by in the morning or at least some of them should. Just wait is about all you can do.

You could always set a little can of water that can't spill and some chick starter in a can that won't spill right in front of her.... in case it takes a couple of days.

Just let mama due her thing. I just had a first time broody hatch a clutch on the 14th. My hearing is bad so untill the little fuzz balls started popping out from under her I was a bit nerves. Now my only problem is when I need to service food and water. She barks they all run for cover then she puffs up twice her size and advances on yours truly. Very protective mother LOL

while i was typing, I heard a new chirp, ran down stairs and there is a dry chick in front of mom,,,, will add water and food in am, sun is setting now.

its soo cool, black sheltie is back on guard around the crate,, she guards chicks, cats are freaked. hope i have more by morning...

will tape water to side of crate, removed all shavings per buffys request....
hoping for two girls to add to flock!!!

mom is very cool, I have dragged her off the nest for 21 days, and she does not peck,,, today she started hissing at me a bit when I walked in the kitchen,, but i drug her out for food at 530 today,, no pecks. the eggs looked intact at that time. now she is a bit hissy with the attention, crated dogs and cats. night is falling,

Putting water and food in there is not neccesary she probably won't come off until tommorrow anyway. She is used to eating once a day anyway. The can of water could get tipped over and cause problems.

I am thinking will drag mom off at 930 am , tape water bottle to the side of crate, show to chicks, and feed , mom back 5 mins later, its a big crate. add food. crate will go outside because weather is nice at last, in xpen,,,,
I am soo excited, new chicks are soo cool, worthy 21 days of dragging mom of box, on my knees , with a really bad back,,,three times a day. its like a pre yoga exercise,, with prayer,, that i could stand up.
but I am soo lucky to have a great broody hen,,,, god bless buffys.
all advice I give thanks and prayers for.....

( oh, I checked egg under mom buffy, at 8 pm , its cheeping,,,,, the egg right in front,, so thats the next one,,,, I am in love,,,,,)

Now that her eggs are pipping, you may want to leave her alone.

Leaving water in her crate is probably a good idea as long as the chicks can't get in it and drown.

Once I hear/see chicks under a broody hen I like to let them be until the hen decides it's time to get off.

Although it sounds like Miss Buffy is quite spoiled

yes miss buffy is spoiled, he he,
i just posted asking for advice,
she is having trouble with her position in the crate, her feet are sliding, and she turns around and leaves a chick out, i know i should leave her alone, but i saved one chick this morning and could have saved another if i got up earlier.

is it too late to put straw, paper or towel inder her? I have tea towels?

I duct tapped the baby waterer in the crate and mom took a long drink, baby one looked interested, don't think she can fall in and drown, its a chick waterer

all your support apreciated

its going to be along day,, rest of eggs are chirping and piping
