Whether you own it or not, it's considered your domicile. I'd assume most states are like here, Wisconsin, in that they can't just tell you to leave; you have to be served a sheriff's order of eviction notice. The process to get to that point here takes months.

Well since no notice was given to you. You have the right to stay and make arrangements to gather your things and find a new place. Even though they sold the house without your knowledge, there is a thing called renters rights.

There is also a thing called legal eviction. Your eviction is not legal. Find an attorney and stay put. They cannot throw you out without giving you notice. I once bought a house where the renters refused to move. It was weeks before I got them out.

Wow that sucks so much. Sound like you are dealing with a tax lien sale on a house that you live in with family. It sounds like you have probably been getting notices about this for months or possibly years. There is no other option. The house has been sold. Take your legal amount of time to get out after you find out how much that is and find a new place quick. Hopefully not with MIL. Sorry.
