Yesterday we recieved our 25 chicks from mcmurray. All 25 arrived alive but one has been acting strange. It sleeps all the time and when it does it lays its legs all the way out like chicks look when they die . Is there anything I can do for it? Is it worth trying? It seems to be going down hill fast all of the sudden.

Is it eating and drinking? Does it have splayed legs? Can it walk at all? You may have to feed it seperate and baby it for it to make it.

It was walking, eating and drinking yesterday but today when I got home it doesn't look good at all. I am giving it sugar water in a straw which it takes but then goes back to sleeping. We have it seperated from the others and it is sitting with us on a heat pad. Is there anything else I can do?

I had recieved 30 chicks last friday, 20 Rhode Island Reds, 4 Americaunas and 6 White Plymouth Rock. Through the course of four days I lost 11 chicks and all 11 did exactly what yours is doing. We did the samething as well. They didn't all die at once but after you nursed each one it looked like it was going to survive and then on the side they went later and died. I tributed all of their deaths to the mishandling from the post office. The post office never called, the stupid postman had them in his truck all morning long until they could be delivered in the afternoon. So, I am picking up more chicks tomorrow locally to replenish the ones I've lost.
